Dell Precision M6700 webcam not working

Hello,

Please, maybe someone could help me.

I have M6700 and it has integrated webcam. But it is not working.

In bios it shows that it is connected, i opened (disassembled partially) screen and i can see, irt is in there and connected.

But Windows can not find it, dell Camera central can not see it, even Dell PC system diagnostics does not see it.

What could be wrong with it?

Thank you

Kind regards

Tomas

Hi Tomas,

Check if the Webcam is detected in the Device Manager:

Steps to navigate to device manager:

  1. Click “start”.
  2. Type “Device Manager” in the search box.
  3. Select “Device Manager “in the list.
  4. Click the Imaging Devices.

If the webcam is detected in Device Manager under Imaging Devices, I recommend you to install the webcam drivers on the computer and try using the webcam.

Below link would help you with the installation of webcam: http://dell.to/Zg221D

Please refer this link to troubleshoot Webcam issues: http://dell.to/VVBXBg

If issue persists, the camera needs to be tested using the Dell Diagnostics.

  1. Switch on the computer, tap F12 at dell logo to enter “One-time boot menu”.
  2. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight “Diagnostics” and press enter.
  3. Run the Integraded_Webcam test listed under USB section of the Custom Test.

Please post the results.

Hello Nikhil,

Sorry this did not work.

I did all as you have told, but there is still nothing in device manager...

I tried all available bios versions, nothing.

ePSA did not let me choose USB/Camera test, as there was no such section.

But in Bios in Miscellaneous devices i can see Camera available.

ePSA also in configuration is showing camera as it is connected.

Webcam central gives nothing, all those links you gave... nothing helps.

I also tried to install Linux and go through all devices that it may recognize... but there is not camera (as you know Linux can recognize more devices even without drivers).

Yesterday i even disassembled all my laptop, and it looks good, all connections are in place (just checked, maybe they are not connected properly). No, this did not help.... any more ideas?

Thank you for help

Kind regards

Tomas

Hi Tomas,

You have performed almost every step and I appreciate the effort. Please press the LCD bezel firmly where the camera is located, it could be a cable contact issue. Now restart the system and check the webcam in Device manager.

If the above steps fail, the webcam needs to be replaced. If the computer is under warranty, I would be glad to arrange a service on the computer. Check
warranty status: http://dell.to/13VPd97

Please private message me the service tag, registered owners name and address.

To private message me please click my user name and click start conversation.

In case of expired warranty scenario, we would not be able to extend warranty entitled services. If the warranty on the computer has expired, below link would help you in contacting expired warranty services (this is for US based customers): http://dell.to/VPYT4T

Awaiting your response!
