It could be a bad CPU, memory or even a faulty replacement with a similar fault. Not likely but it can happen. Have you tried with an external screen ?
You were right. Replacement CPU has done tne job. Thanks. but would you believe I now have the problem that the hard drive is not being recognised even after enabling in setup. Better go onto the hard drive board tnen. Thanks again.
After thinking about it, I researched the two chips. Apparently the 1.13 GHZ uses a different voltage than the 1.0 GHZ. I don't want to mess with that. Then the consideration of whether or not hte stock 1.0 GHZ cooler will be adaquete made me just get the new replacement exactly the same.

Hi,
There are 3 symptoms of a bad CPU, you dont always get them all.
1 Freezing
2 Overheating
3 No post, the screen wont light up, and it wont turn off.
They can do the opposite of what you expect, but the feezing stands out. If the CPU was working, you would get a blue screen.

ebay is the best source I found. But you might have to wait for a compatible one to come up.
the Intel 'Processor Spec Finder' is a first call to ident your unit. http://processorfinder.intel.com/
