Resolution or hardware issue?

Good afternoon. I am new to the laptop arena and appreciate the time people dedicate to reading posts and answering questions. I've learned a lot so far. I've seen posts about blurry fonts, but I have a question along those same lines. I've noticed that some applications (some online some not), don't always show up as it appears they should. For instance, buttons are half on the screen and half off (so you cannot see them), lines or boxes do not always show up, fonts are sometimes jagged, etc. I bought my Dell through the outlet, didn't know if there is some hardware problem I'm not aware of. DVDs play awesome, so I am thinking its something with the fact that my computer is widescreen and just displays things difference than a traditional monitor? Anyway, I have another 12 days to return it if need be, so I'm asking all the questions I can and examining it as closely as possible. I saved $300+ buying the notebook from the outlet and overall am very happy with it. Anyone else have experiences with the outlet good or bad? I seems like a good deal. If you can shed any light on these display issues, I'd sure appreciate it. Getting a little nervous thinking there may be a display problem right out of the box.. then again, could just be me. This is a known problem with internet explorer they have a couple of things you can do to inprove your display here are all the best fixes i know of.

1.Right click a empty spot on your desktop click properties then apearence then effects make sure clear type is selected in the second pulldown box.Then go to the settings tab then select advanced make sure your dpi is set to 96 and set your laptop to it's native resalution.

2.Regestry fix for Internet explorer.

3.Open interner explorer click tool then internet options scroll down to Automatic imace resize and uncheck box.

4.Click start then run type in regedit click ok or enter select HKEY_CURRENT_USER

+ Software

+ Microsoft

+ Internet explorer

Double click ( Main )

On the right side scroll down to USEHR = dword:00000001 double click on it a box will display in the top left corner

Change the value to 0 USEHR = dword:00000000 close all + and exit

.Download this nifty tool which will improve your text run it and you are done.

Theese changes will make a pretty drastic improvement in your laptop display.
