AFTD changes on the way.
We're working on some changes to the Advanced File Type Device (AFTD) to address customer requests for enhancement. The following changes are coming soon to a datazone near you:
- Volume selection criteria will change so that data is sent to AFTD volumes based on lowest used space instead of earliest label time. This allows for much better load balancing among AFTDs within a given pool.
- Savesets will be allowed to span across multiple AFTD volumes. A configuration setting will be introduced that defines the threshold at which NetWorker will stop writing to a volume. At that point, the saveset will span over to other AFTDs in the pool.
- The defaults for target and max sessions will change. Target sessions will go from 4 to 1, and max sessions will go from 512 to 32. These will remain configurable parameters, but the defaults will more closely reflect the best practices of B2D.
We have other changes in store for AFTD, but these are the furthest along in the development cycle. What other changes would you like to see in our B2D implementation?
