Data transfer

What sort of cable is required to transfer the data from an old to a new computer using Windows XP?

If you have network cards in both computers you would need a special network cable called a cross-over cable.  If you don't have network cards in both, then you would need a special parallel cable or a special seriel cable to use Direct Cable Connection built into Windows, or a special USB cable with software - both of which are usually purchased together.

Steve:

Can you help me?  I purchased a Dell 8400 Media Center. I had an HP Pavilion 4443 series.
My question is, is there an easy way to transfer the data from the old to the new?

I tried connecting a USB cable to the old system as someone directed me but it wouldn't let me install it.

Thanks.
