DSL connection failed

Are you asking about your ethernet network adaper?  If so, why are you asking this on the wireless forum?  in any case you need to provide more information.  If you open Device Manager and expand the listing for Network Adapters, what adapters are listed there?  If you open Network Connections, which network connections are list there?  Are you trying to connect an ethernet cable from the computer directly to the dsl modem or are you connecting it to a LAN port on the router?  When making this connection, in either case, do the link lights on the modem or router and next to the port on the computer light up?

I'm still not sure what you mean by connecting by DSL cable - Please explain your setup.

 

It is very strange that no wireless adapter show up in Device manager and no Local Area connection shows up in Network Connections.  Are you sure it is like that?  If it is, then you appear to have major problems with Windows.  Are there any problem devices listed in Device Manager?

Thanks, Steve, for your questions. I'm sorry if I am in the wrong group, but I will continue here in order to get your feedback.

 

When I open Device Manager and expand the listing for Network Adapters, I only get the Intel PRO/Wireless LAN. When I open Network Connections, I only have a wireless connection. My DSL cable comes from  a LAN port on a router, and this is functioning properly. Other computers are working fine off of it, and lights are lit appropriately.

 

Can you give me further suggestions about how I can regain ability to connect via DSL cable.

Prior to the advent of wireless technology, there was only one way to connect to the Internet--via a telephone or DSL cable connecting the computer to a modem or router. It is this form of connection that is no longer possible for me. There is a wireless adapter that shows up in Device Manager (I think)--Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI adaptor. When I go to "Network Connections," all I get is a wireless icon.

 

Is this clearer?

There is no such thing as a DSL cable.  I think you mean ethernet cable.

 

It appears that your ethernet network adapter is not installed.  On a computer that can connect tot he interet, go to the following site and download the drivers for your ethernet network adapter.  Copy the downloaded file to removable media then copy it to your problem computer and run the file to install the drivers for your etherent adapter.

I downloaded the driver and it was saved and installed on my computer. Should it show up in the Device Manager or Network Connections? Even after restarting my computer, I have no indication that I have the possibility of anything but wireless connection when I go to Network Connections. Is there another step?

In Network Connections it should show up as the Local Area Connection.  In Device Manager under Network Connections it should show up as a Broadcom controller.  You say you downloaded the file, but did you actually run it on the computer after you put there?
