I need help connecting 2 computers to the internet!!!!!

Hi I'm looking to connect my two computers up to the internet. 1 has a cable modem and is already connected to the internet. The other (which is upstairs) isn't. I have got a linksys USB adapter wireless-g and tried to connect the two using that but didn't work. I don't know whether I should get another one for the connected computer to connect the two to the internet or should I get a router or switch or something like that. Please Help!

You need a wireless router in order to accomplish what you are trying to do.  First, make sure that your cable modem has the ability to connect with ethernet, as it is impossible to find a router that will connect to the cable modem by USB.  Once you have the wireless router, you connect to the cable modem to the WAN (sometimes called Internet) port on the router by an ethernet cable.  You connect the downstairs computer to one of the router's LAN ports by an ethernet cable, and the upstairs computer will connect by wireless through the USB wireless adapter.
