Problem accessing the configuration web of my wireless router.

I have a pretty weird connection to the internet.. let me explain that first.

I have Dial up. My network pretty much goes like this
DIAL UP-DESKTOP > ROUTER > LAPTOP
I have Internet Connection sharing on the desktop, and thats how the laptop access's the internet through with wireless.

I have had this router for probably 6 months, but now I want to play with it, so I installed the Router Config Utility- that went fine on the laptop.

(edit I have a TrueMobile 1184 router)

Now when I go into the router config utility it says that the router IP is 192.168.2.1 BUT when I go to the cmd prompt and do ipconfig /all it says the defualt gateway is 192.168.0.1 I have tried accessing both IP's using IE, and also tried my.router. When I try to go to 192.168.0.1 it says the connection was refused.

Any help on this would be terrfic!

Thanks

Look in the internet-options of your browser. Go to the tab connections,LAN-configuration.  Make sure your proxyserver is out, and try again connecting to http://my.router.

charris_456,

Because you are running ICS, the default gateway on your LAN will be the IP address of the ethernet card in your desktop.  So 192.168.0.1 is the correct gateway address, assigned by the ICS DHCP server.

The router is probably set to receive an IP address from a DHCP server, so the WAN address of the router will come from ICS and will be 192.168.0 x, where x is any number from 2 to 255.  If you knew that last octet you could access the router from the desktop.

IP address 192.168.2.1 is the normal IP address for the TM1184 on the LAN side.  Depending on how the router is currently configured you may be able to access it from the laptop.  Just use IE and enter http://192.168.2.1 in the IE address bar.  Once connected, you can assign a static address to the router's WAN side.  Use the ICS standards - 192.168.0.x.  Then you will be able to access it from the desktop.

I tried accessing it at 192.168.2.1 and it says it cant find it.

If anyone wants to help me troubleshoot it through MSN Messenger here is my MSN email address ch456@earthlink.net
