True Mobile 2300 problems

Hi all,
I want to tell my little story about my extremely bad experience with the Dell Truemobile 2300.
When I first got it I could see that it was a Dlink manufactured device and I thought that it’s probably pretty good because I have a rather good experience with Dlink product.
But.. the first think I noticed is that the 2300 router is very unstable with this I mean that it cuts the IP sessions I have for example if I’m in a video conference I have to reconnect at least 2-3 times an hour due to the lost of the connection, an ftp connection does not last more than a couple of hundreds of MB until it dies on me…. And don’t say that it’s my ISP traffic quality that makes this problem… because when I’m connected directly to the ISP with the same computer the traffic is extremely stable….
So first I thought “Ok, I’ll upgrade it to the newer firmware”, the router comes with firmware version 3.0.0.8 or A02 and the newer version is 5.1.1.6 or A03 so I do it and the router stops working. Of course u think this must be a faulty hardware problem but… no 4 routers later I start to wonder if I’m stupid or what???
I change the router 4 times… every time I get the router with the same firmware A02 and it doesn’t work for me because it’s not stable…why doesn’t Dell deliver the router with the newer firmware??? Or why is the new firmware so bad that I bring down the router completely?? Maybe I do something wrong… I’ve tried to upgrade the router with the Control Utility and the web GUI but exactly the same problem??
What do I do???

I've just had router #2 go down on me.

No power light, no wireless light ... internet light flashes and my LAN 4 light is lit up (cause I've got another desktop direct connected in there). However, no wireless network or internet for either computer.

Even when it IS working ... my laptop from work gets dropped every 3 minutes when I try to put it on the network.

I don't know what firmware version I have.

Dell is kindly sending me a third router.

Then I guess that wont be the last one

Cos all of mine have had exactly the same symtom... the router stop to function and the LAN and Internet LEDs are flashing as normal but the POWER lamp is dead..

So I guess DELL has some troubleshooting to do...

I have two customers that have Truemobile 2300 routers.  Both have issues.

The first customer had the radio in the router die after 1 month.  Dell replaced it, and after 3 months the radio in the new router died.  They refuse to issue a refund - all they will do is send another replacement.

The other customer that bought the 2300 called today - I have not looked at the router yet, but sounds like the same issue.  Radio is dead.  Works fine wired, but no radio.

I have talked to dell support, and been through all the changing of channels, resetting, etc.  Bottom line is the radio is dead.

I am 0 for 3 with this router.  Has anyone had one of these working for more than a few months?

This thread describes my situation. Upgrade firmware, no improvement, try a reset, lose power, router toast.

Same problem here.  No Power or Wireless lights, but it will pass lan traffic for a limited amount of time.

Internet light flashes, but never can get a IP address from a DHCP server or connect to the Internet.

Reset switch to reset to factory defaults does not seem to make any difference, as does upplugging

it for any amount of time.

Anyone figure out how to fix ( besides replacing )?

I just discovered this problem as well.  I had been using the wireless feature for several months, but gave up on it due to dropped connections and poor gaming performance.  I reconfigured my home network making the wireless benefit unneeded.  I moved and tired to use the wireless access once again, but I cannot find the network.  Thus, it seems I have the same problem... the radio is dead after less than 6 months of use.  I'm going to just go buy a linksys since the performance wasnt stable anyway.  The Dell Truemoible 2300 is a truelemon of a product.

Hi there.

I am on router #3. #1 worked great for about 4 months, then just died. #2 arrived, and didn't work wireless right off the bat. #3 arrived the other day, and seems to be ok now. I did have to uninstall, and re-install the wireless card in my computer to finally get the router to see it, but for the moment, all is ok. Judging by my past experience, and the stories here, I probably shouldn't count on extended life from this thing.

I am SOOO sorry I didn't read this thread before I ran the firmware update on my TM 2300.  It worked just fine with version 3, but I couldn't get a good WPA connection, so foolishly I hoped to make that better with 5.1.1.6.  I ran the update last night.  It hasn't stayed connected for more than a couple of minutes since.   Power light shuts off, other connections appear to still be lit, but the connection is dropped.

Thanks a lot for dropping this EGG Dell, and I especially thank you for KEEPING IT ON YOUR WEBSITE for me to get too months after these problems have been reported.
