A920 printer will not scan...tried everything..please help

My mother got a dell computer and gave me the A920 because she has a printer. Printer has been in box for 3 years. Now that i need it I cant get it to scan or copy.The printer does print. I have installed and unistalled, unplugged, unattached,and everything that is on the forum. I have a gateway computer and am using Windows XP. I have upgraded, reregistered,still no scan. Searching for Scanning applications is the message and then when i click scan in AIO it freezes. LexBce is started...printing spooler is started.under imaging devices it list the printer but no scanner. I downloaded the driver from dell and still no scanner. seems lots of people have had this problem with no solution. Since the computer was purchased 3 years ago there is no warranty even though i installed just recently.Should i give up and call it a loss? Please help me get my scanner up and running.

is this printer with usb or network cable attached to the computer or to the router? you try to scan from computer or from printer to computer?

I am using one usb cable to the port on back of computer(i have tried all 4 ports)...and i can not scan or copy anything from the scanner by 1. pushing the scan/copy buttons or 2. using the multiple programs (aio..windows,microsoft picture) that are on my comp. I can print anything off of my computer...but i cannot scan or copy pictures, documents onto my comp.
