Problem with Windows 7 Install Shield (Installing EPSON Printer drivers and software)

Installing new EPSON Artisan 730 printer software and drivers and receive the "The Install Shield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched. Class not registered" error. Installation is able to continue but I can no longer access the scanner functionality directly through Photoshop and I wonder if the this is related. I'm running Photoshop CS6 64-bit.  I'm able to scan fine using he EPSON Scan utility, however trying todoa FILE->IMPORT->WIA gives an error "NoWIA compatible devices detected". Thank you.
