I've solved everyone's DMX reinstall and install problems

Well, it looks like in just a couple hours I've done what Dell either couldn't or didn't want to do. It looks like I've fixed this problem. All it took was being nosey and snooping through the seperate files. I've also found a way to "tweak" it so it'll install on non Dell systems. I won't tell how thats done since my guess is that its technically illegal but I will give the unsurprisingly EASY steps to fix Dell Media Experience so you won't get the "Dell Media Experience is not available for your system. Setup will abort." message even though it used to work before you were forced to reformat and reinstall Windows. (Jeeze, was that sentance long enough?)

This fix MAY make it possible for those that have Dells but bought them a bit too early to qualify for the opportunity to install the program but I'm not gonna guarantee it (Although it did make it possible for me to install it on my older 2 gig Dell Latitude C840 which was purchased WAYYYY before DMX was made available)

Remember.....This is embarrasingly simple.

1) Go to http://support.dell.com/filelib/exportcompliance.aspx?FileID=88759&ReleaseID=R68321&location=2&st= and download RS8321.EXE from Dell.

2) Using Winzip, Winrar or a similar prog. right click the file and choose "extract to".

3) Choose an easy to get to folder

4) Go to that folder. You should see 2 files. Setup.exe and Version.txt (setup.exe is not a real install file. its a self executable)

5) Right click setup.exe and again "extract to" an easy to get to folder

6) Open that folder and you'll see all the REAL setup.exe and the support files needed for install.

7) Open Custom.ini and change Fulfillment_Model=1 to Fulfillment_Model=0

8) Save the changes to Custom.ini and click setup.exe to install

9) Enjoy DMX

I've had people PM me asking if this was for real for if I was setting them up for a fall. If you've had trouble installing DMX after reinstalling Windows and my directions have worked for you and made installation of DMX possible please post your results.

Also let us know if you've been able to install on a Dell that supposedly (According to Dell) can't run the software, like my Latitude C840.

I got my dell in Jan 2004, and it came with DMX, but i kept having other software probs, so i formated it and everything is cool apart from i could not find Dmx on all the disks that came with it.  Even dell could not help me, they just said that all i had was the trail version, and that i would have to buy the full version, i think they were just thobing me off.

Cheers matey, i have done everything you said and DMX worked just great on my dell 8300.

Just one point to make to anybody else who reads this, you need winzip not windows xp compression progam.

Hi,

I clicked on  the download link that you posted. All that happened was a new browser opening with the web page http://ftp.us.dell.com// in it. The file "RS8321.EXE " was nowhere to be found. Could you please check you link or provide an alternate way for download ? Thanks :)

Well, It appears that Dell has removed the file from their servers. I searched all over the downloads and it isn't there anymore. Hopefully they removed it with plans on replacing it with one that actually works so people aren't forced to do my "fix" to install it. I think its pretty bad on Dell's part not to comment on any of this. Dell's mods have gone out of their way NOT to answer Dell owner's questions about DMX. I'm sure they've read my "fix" threads but they remain quiet while posting to other threads. I know they can't support or reccomend my "fix" since it isn't an official Dell fix but acting like the original problem doesn't exist is not gonna solve it.

People paid their hard earned money for these computers and the software that was included SHOULD work and SHOULD be able to be reinstalled. People have stated that it was free software so everyone should stop complaining. I say that the DMX software could quite possibly be someone's deciding factor on buying from Dell. Seems like a rip-off when said person is forced to reinstall and then finds that he can't reinstall it or even worse now the poor sap can't even download the software that he rightfully owns.

Hopefully Dell will accept responsibility and respond to this thread or the PM I sent to Stephen.

Hello greetings from Holland, I was able to reinstall DMX using the information you have given.

Dell in The Netherlands would not help me with the problem telephone calls and E-Mail gave me non result.

They didn't react at all on any E-Mail i have sent for a solution.

I will search for Web space and place the R68321 for every one to download they have realy removed the file from their servers.

Adding on a non Dell System do you have the solution?  perhaps in a PM

Hi,

I'd sure like to get my hands on that file  So if anyone could maybe manage to provide me with a copy I'd appreciate it very much. Send me a private message with details if you dont want to post about it in public.

Thanks, Stephan

Hi Sideswivelhead,

> You can not install dmx on anything else but a dell system.

Was that in response to me ? Sorry, Dell forums dont seem to show posting relationships. Anyway, if it was, you will be overjoyed to learn that I am the proud owner of a Dell Dimension 8300 system  Even if you are not, I am. Its a P4 with 3 GHz, 1 GB RAM and a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro vid card. Surround sound is on board and of course theres a DVD reader and writer. I was assuming that this is basically what you need to run DMX.

Hy all of you ...

Everyboy is a little bit angry with dell ...but we can make a workarround to make that working ....

our friend Viccie is sharing a link that still works ( ftp://ftp1.ap.dell.com/video/ ) , maby I say maby we can find it also in P2P

sharing like "emule "  . ( maby )  R68321.exe

we should erase all our temp files just for esay allocation of r68321 temp files ....

- just run r68321.exe file and dont ACEPT error window ¡¡ , if you click on it , you will erase TEMP files of it .

- allocate temp files generated , it should be on ( win xp temp files in this case )

 C:\Documents and Settings\user( your)\local configuration\Temp\

on temp files locate Custom.ini and edit it ( Open Custom.ini and change Fulfillment_Model=1 to Fulfillment_Model=0 )

like our friend sirr7 explains.

then you can run install.exe .... and enjoy

I hope this help US.
