Primary Hard Disk Drive 0 Failure? Help!
Dell Dimension 3000
Intel Celeron 2.93GHz
The antivirus software is all up to date (McAfee), as is Windows Home (updated only just 2 days ago), firewall, etc... no software or games installed before the problem or recently. The computer is around a year old.
For some unknown reason when it boots up the computer makes a 'clicking noise' every second until there is a double 'beep' and this message in white text (black background - not even got to Windows XP Home load up screen):
Primary hard disk drive 0 failure
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility
Pressing F1 brings up a new message: "stike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility". Pressing F1 just repeats the same message, no matter how many times you press F1. F2 takes to a layout with various options of which I haven't attempted to change.
Can anyone please tell me what the problem is, how bad it is and how can I fix it?
Thank you.

Sounds like your internal hard drive has failed. Can you access the Dell diagnostics utility? At Dell splash screen after startup, hit F12? Run diagnostics for hard drive.
This link may assist your further troubleshooting:

Primary IDE
Drive 0: - Error attempting diagnostics
Drive 1: No IDE device
Secondary IDE
Drive 0: _NEC DVD+/-RW ND-3450A - Diagnostics not supported
Drive 1: No IDE device
Test complete, Press to reboot
I also looked at that link and I get the following lights on the back of the computer:
A - Green
B - Green
C - Green
D - Yellow

Is your system still under warranty? If Yes, call Dell Tech support for new hard drive?
