IEXPLORE - Memory could not be read & ActiveShield - Components missing

Question

Every time I exit IE (V6.0.2900) I receive an error message that states 'The instruction at '0x022c3795' referenced memory at '0x01bcf238'.  The memory could not be 'read'.   I also cannot enable my McAfee Antivirus software.  I get an error message that reads Some components of ActiveShield are either missing or might not have been installed properly. IE problems are usually caused by BHOs or toolbars that load with IE. In hijackthis these are O2 and O3 entries. In your case:

You can close IE then check all of the above in HijackThis and then Fix Checked. Then open IE and see if you have the same problem. IF not then Start Hijackthis again and View the list of Backups then check each entry and then RESTORE.

If it does help then only restore a few at a time until you determine which causes the problem.

Chances are it is Adobe 6.0.

I've seen it on the net several times causing similar problems with IE.

You can uninstall it and install the latest 7.0 version.

As far as McAfee goes, I would uninstall it, reboot and then reinstall it and see if it will then work.

If that doesn't help then Start, Run, sigverif, Ok and then press Start when the new program comes up. When it finishes look at the list and see if wininet.dllis on the list.
