Although SMTP mail can be sent from a VNX to an SMTP service, it's apparently not possible to send an authenticated email.  i.e. there is no way for the VNX to have a username/password in order to authenticate to an SMTP service.

Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, what was the workaround?
