Advice on Spyware
I have Spybot, Ad-Aware and Spyware Blaster. I search for any updates every day. Ad-Aware updates almost daily, Spybot seems to update maybe twice a month or less. Spyware Blaster seem to update every 7-10 days. For free products they work well. However, Spybot never seems to find anything anymore. Ad-Aware almost always finds some trackers.
I have been reading that spyware/malware, etc., is growing by leaps and bounds. I am thinking of adding Pest Patrol and perhaps Spy Sweeper, even though they are subscription.
Is there any problem with having several of these utilities on my machine? I guess they operate independently and do not interfer with each other.
Finally, as I was checking further I noticed that I have SpywareGuard that I downloaded with Spyware Blaster but did not activate for some reason , which appears to turn away spyware before it even can get inside....not sure if it is designed to work with Spyware Blaster. Thanks for any info.

Spyware Guard adds an "SG" icon to System Tray & you double click or right click on it to display the Menu.
If you run Ad-aware first Spybot probably won't find anything.
You can get FREE program called Spybot from;
http://spybot.eon.net.au/
If you install with Blind Icons you also get a Desktop shortcut which shows extra "Immunize" Options
"Lock IE Home Page"
"Lock Hosts file"
"Lock use of Internet Options from IE" > Tools > Internet Options
Use Update 1st before Immunize & Scan for problems & delete files shown in Red or Green & auto ticked.
Also has other Tools , like list or Add/Remove of Auto Startup Programs & lists Hosts file
If you have already install Spybot & "Immunize" doesn't show extra options
change the Shortcut link "Target" to
"C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe" or use "All Programs" > "Spybot > Advanced Mode"

I, too, have SpywareGuard, but it hasn't offered an update for three months. I wonder if it's actually effective.
Another (possibly dead) security program I've got is CWShredder. I installed it months ago, but every time I click on "Check for Update," I get: "Unable to retrieve CWShredder update information. The server might be unavailable, try again later." I've emailed them about this, but have never received a reply. Does anyone know if this is just taking up room on my PC?

As far as I know, the updater associated with CWShredder doesn't work. You can always get the latest version from here:

It is updated frequently.

From a users point of view and not that of a tech. guy, I have read that having more than one of these programs installed at one time can create conflicts between them. I used and ran Adaware with no problems for quite some time. Just before deleting the program I ran it again to clean things up. After deleting Adaware I installed Spybot and ran it and it returned a few additional items that Adaware missed.
My opinion is that Spybot is a better program over Adaware.
Spybot and say Zone Alarm Pro along with a few setting adjustments on your PC should be all one would need to be safe, NORMALLY................
