Code Modification Needed?

Hi,

I have a Dimension L667r with Win 98 SE
(upgrades were made over time).

A few years ago, I went on a mission to be
rid of the Dell splash screen containing the
large Earth image and URL. After booting, I
wanted to see the Windows sreen instead
of that.

I added a command line, somewhere, that
did have the Windows screen to display, but
somehow a flicker resulted.  For example:
  • Pc boots
  • Screen displays assorted info
  • Windows screen appears
  • Flicker occurs (screen goes black)
  • Windows screen reappears
  • Goes to password entry window
I think that I went into msconfig, but I'm lost
after that.  I wanna put this flicker to rest once,
and for all.

All advice and comments would be welcomed.

Thanks, in advance.

If I understand you correctly, it is probably a screen refresh change.
Video cards and/or monitors can cause the picture to flicker especially when the display changes dramatically or between formats(2d card to 3d card, or 16-bit to Opengl 32bit, etc...).
It could just be your videocard initializing in windows too.
the C:/logo*.sys and C:/windows/logo*.sys files are the ones that set your splash screens.  If you look in msconfig, you will probably see many video programs starting... or something that 'touches' video (like Dr Watson or something).
as a test, you could try setting your default windows display to 256 colors or boot into safe mode and see if the problem persists.
