Long time loading

Hi
I am trying to help out my brother. His computer is a 9300 80g HD  1 g memory 1.7 Pent. M Winxp Pro sp2 updated. The main problem is this  Turn on the machine and everything is fine until the welcome page. The Desktop background picture comes right up but the icons don`t show up for well over 2 mins. The icons pop up all at the exact same time. He tells me it was always like this
since he bought it. It is worse now. I ran Av scans and Spyware scans both online and off. Nothing found. The problem does not seem to happen in safemode

I wonder if i should start disabling add ons one at a time to see if that helps.  Any ideas.
Thanks

Common issue with too many items on the startup.

Go to start-Run and type MSCONFIG. IDentify items that are linked to your antivirus and disable the rest. Click Apply and Close. Restart the system. When the systen restarts, you ll get a message box stating 'System Config Utility has been used on this computer...'. There is a check box that says Dont show this message again. Check mark that and then click OK. You would feel a lot of difference in the startup.

Cheers

Okay. Try to disable them all from startup. also there is a services tab there. Click on that and then check mark hide all Microsoft services. When you do that, the number of Items listed under services will reduce. Disable all and then apply the settings. Click on close and then restart the system.

Then go to C:/Windows/Prefetch.. Delete all  that is listed in there.

Plus. When did the issue beging? Did you install some software upgrades like IE7 or something. IF yes, try system restore. If you have an External Device like printer or HDD. Disconnect that and then try to boot.
