Please accept my condolences on your sad loss.

You could try logging is as the default system administrator, unless she also set a password for that it would not have one.

To logon as default system Administrator; (& default Administrator account isn't shown)
For XP PRO;
Use normal mode , at Welcome Screen press Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys together TWICE.
For XP Home;
Use Safe Mode & at Welcome Screen press keys TWICE.
To enter Safe Mode press F8 key many times during startup until Menu is displayed
then use Arrow keys to select Safe Mode & press Enter key.
The default Administrator password is blank unless you have set one. (the Default Administrator Password isn't your Computer/Administrator password)
(If you have Auto logon set , use Log Off to show Log On  Screen.)
(If you use Classic Log On box  enter  Administrator for PRO normal mode & Home safe mode)

If that works, you can then access her user account and change the password, or create a new user account for yourself.

Electronicman,
Jrosenfeld's suggestion should work for XP Home since the Safe Mode Administrator is usually blank..  If not, there are ways to safely blank the password(s).

You could try one or other of Nirsoft Utilities password viewers

Note that some antivirus software flag these as spyware. That is because they could of course be used maliciously if installed by an unauthorised person. However as you are deliberately and legitimately using them they are OK. They do not harm your PC in any way. If your AV keeps deleting them as malicious, either turn the AV off or exclude the file(s) from scanning/detection in the AV software (I did the latter in NAV).

I am not sure whether it would show passwords for all user accounts, or only those for the account you are logged in with, as I only have one user account.

You may also be able to retrieve your daughter's log in password with one of those tools

Thanks to you both, I was able to get into the machine.
One other question, if I try to modify or delete my daughters PW, it says her other PW 's will be deleted. I am not sure she had any other PW saved for her email etc, so I will not be deleting it. Is there any way to see what other PW she may have had?
