Questions

Hello All,

Just a few quick questions.  I currently have a Dimension 8400 and want to do a clean install and I have read I can take it back to the way it was built from the factory using the F11 and Ctrl on the keyboard. Is this function working well because I have been reading a lot of negativity about it?

Second question:  I’m concerned that if my HD would ever crash I would be unable to run F11 and Crtl as I didn’t receive and recovery disk with my system and saw that using Run the Dell™ OS Recovery Utility I can create my own disk?  What will these disks consist of?  Are they disk to restore the entire PC from CD, including drivers, everything I need?

Also if I wanted a copy of my disk from Dell, will they ship them to me and how do I go about getting a copy?

Sorry for all they question I just don’t want to get caught short.

Thanks

HolyWind,

The PC Restore function works fine. Instructions for its use are here.

You don't say when you purchased your 8400 but if it was fairly recently you may not have the capability of creating a XP CD. See this for instructions on how to perform that operation and this to explain why you may not have that feature. The CD generated is a complete copy of Windows XP and can be used to completely reinstall XP should you need to.

If you don't have that feature, you can request an XP CD from Dell using the links here.
