re-Installing windows, advice needed.......

I am going to have to re-install windows XP on my cpu. Is there anyway to re-install windows without losing information on the hard drive? (ex: saved files, games, pictures)

ccubsnumberone,

A Repair Reinstall (instructions here) will do that but may not solve whatever problem is causing the need for a reinstallation. After doing it you will need to reinstall all the Windows updates you have applied since receiving the computer.

As the reply above said, you can do a repair install. It may or may not fix your problem, and will leave you files alone.

If you have a cd burner, it might be worth while to burn any important documents or program files to CD and do a complete reinstall. But give the repair a shot, it cant hurt.
