Sorry I can not assist here. But I am also having problems with performing a clean install of XP Pro, which goes fine. But after I load and update NIS 04 I get problems. I noticed you are running XP and NIS, can ask what types and versions ie XP Pro or Home and NIS 05 or 04 and other than this issue you mention are you having any other problems. Was it factory installed? Did you having any trouble loading SP2?
Ref your load problem, try loading it in another profile such as the administrator profile. It shouldn't matter but I have noticed that sometimes this will work, not sure why.
