I did read the forum and thanks for giving your experiences with XP Media. I'm sorry you had so much troubIe with it. I don' t really know whats been causing it but Dell has shipped me out a new laptop so we'll see how this one is. Mine surely wasnt conflicting with any other software though because I hadnt installed much of anything on it before it all started. Thanks again
Unfortunately Dell's "out of the box" software installs on the E1705/9400 are rather substandard. Mine crashed on a regular basis too until I nuked and repaved (which was a major pain - the install hung at one point, but killing the system and booting again allowed the install to continue from the hang point.)
I had one or two hangs while reinstalling drivers, but since I got all of the drivers reinstalled it SEEMS like the system is much more responsive and it hasn't hung in over an hour. It's too early to tell unfortunately. I regret not going for XP Pro, considering I use Linux for all "media" activities, especially TV. (MythTV blows MCE '05 out of the water.)
The system has been rock solid when I've booted Linux LiveCDs on it.
