Does anyone know step by step how to fix a \windows32\system corrupt or missing system error?

Stating the model of PC you have and the exact problem will help us answer you. When does this error occur? Are you running Windows Vista? Or XP?

I have a Dell Dimension 4700 with Windows XP Professional.
I turn on the computer and all the comes up is a black screen with the windows32 system error that says its either missing or corrupt.

I've tried putting in the Reinstall CD but nothing comes up.  I've tried the F8 and trying safe mode and the last good working option and nothing.

Now if I hit F1 either the windows error comes up or a Disk 0 comes up.

\windows\system32\config\system file is either missing or corrupt.  I also get Diskette 0 that comes up as well.

This weekend I took apart my computer and cleaned all dust out from the fan and any inside.  I put back together and when I turned on my computer the system32 error popped up first I then rebooted and tried the Alt F11 and tried to reconfigure the system and that didn't work.

After trying that the the message came up Diskette 0.  If I hit F1 it will show up with the system32 error after that.
