Help Me Choose: Battery

Help Me Choose: Battery

Battery life is an important factor when you are deciding on a laptop. Whether you work long hours on the road or spend the majority of your time plugged into a power dock, find the best option to meet your needs.

Dell laptops come with one of two kinds of batteries:

Swappable battery:
  • easily removable
  • swap out a fully charged spare battery*
  • ideal if you work long hours unplugged on the road or in the air
Built-in battery:
  • fits thin and light laptops.
  • ideal for lightweight travel
  • easy to pack
  • charges with an optional portable adapter*
Tip: The more cells, or the higher the watt-hours powering the same laptop under the same operating conditions, the longer the battery will last when unplugged from an outlet.

Battery Capacity Battery Life Choose if you want
Large (9 cell) 90 WHr Longest battery life
Standards (6 cell) 48-60 WHr Balance of lightweight and reasonable battery life
Small (2 cell) 30-40 WHr Lightweight, thin, portable design

Cells are individual compartments in a battery that product power. The more cells a battery has, the longer battery life it will have.
WHr, standing for Watt Hour, refers to the laptop battery capacity. The higher WHr, the more energy can be stored and used in an hour.
