Prerequisites
WARNING There is a danger of a new battery exploding if it is incorrectly installed. Replace the battery only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Discard used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions. See the safety instructions that came with your system for more information.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.

Remove the front system cover.
Remove the rear system cover.
Remove the expansion card riser 1.
Replacing the system battery:
Locate the battery socket. For more information, see the System board jumpers and connectors section.
CAUTION To avoid damage to the battery connector, you must firmly support the connector while installing or removing a battery.
Use a plastic scribe to pry out the system battery.
To install a new system battery, hold the battery with the positive side facing up and slide it under the securing tabs.
Press the battery into the connector until it snaps into place.
Install the expansion card riser 1.
Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
Install the rear system cover.
Install the front system cover.
If applicable, install the system into the rack.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet.
Turn on the attached peripherals and then turn on the system.
While booting, press F2 to enter the System Setup and ensure that the battery is operating properly.
Enter the correct time and date in the System Setup Time and Date fields.
Exit the System Setup.
