The Windows Update Troubleshooter is built into client and server versions of Windows, and the steps for using it are the same in both. It can identify and repair some common issues that prevent Windows Update from working properly.
Today I will be doing a demo on how to fix Windows Update using a built in tool called Windows Update Troubleshooter. This is one of the easiest methods to fix Windows Updates. Without delaying further let me do the demo. First we need to click on 'Start' and go to 'Control Panel.
In Control Panel double click on 'Troubleshooting'. Under 'Troubleshooting' click 'View All'. Under 'View All' you will see the 'Windows Update' icon. Once you double click you will see the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Click on 'Advanced'. Make sure you click on 'Apply Repair Automatically', and you click 'Next.
The troubleshooter will check for any errors, or any corrupted updates and attempt to automatically fix issues like Windows database errors. So let's see from this screen, what are the errors we will see in the Windows update. Right, so from the screen itself we see there are two errors.
One is 'Security settings are missing' it's been changed to 'Fixed' and 'Service registration is missing or corrupted' so it fixed automatically. So this is very good that we are able to fix all the issues by itself. So once done, what we need to do, we need to reboot the server.
I have rebooted the server, let's run again the Windows update troubleshooter, see is there any error message so make sure this, click on 'Advanced' and this is clicked, and click 'Next'. 'Troubleshooting could not identify the problem' which means there's no other errors.
Just to just to confirm, just click on 'View detailed information'. So you don't see any message here. I hope these tools will help you in your daily tasks, to troubleshoot any Windows update problems.
