It enables the operating system to show the correct name for hardware in the Windows Device Manager. - Intel Chipset Device Software uses an unusual date for the devices that it is targeting. The date 07-18-1968 is symbolic. Intel is founded that day. This date is to lower the rank of Intel Chipset Device Software. - This update is necessary because it is a supporting utility that should not overwrite any other drivers.
