Symptoms

This impacts every Alienware m15 R2, R3, and R4 and Alienware m17 R2, R3, and R4 laptops with or without the Tobii Camera configuration. The black top venting cover has an indent under the center of the LCD, close to the hinge.

Cause

Dell engineering has confirmed that the purpose of this indent is to provide space for the Tobii Camera. Laptops that are shipped with the Tobii camera need the indent for when the laptop is closed. The same cover is used if you purchase the laptop with or without the Tobii camera. That means this indent is found on all these laptops.

Resolution

This indent is designed into the plastic. There is no fault with the plastics.
