Symptoms
This article explains how to uninstall the PowerStore VMware host plug-in after a migration operation.
Cause
After finishing a PowerStore Import migration from the external storage array, it is possible to uninstall the PowerStore VMware host plug-in used on the host. This process causes host downtime and requires reconfiguration. The ESXi host should be rebooted after uninstalling the plug-in, and Virtual Machine File System (VMFS) volumes must have a new signature.
Uninstalling the Import host agent is disruptive and requires VMFS datastore re-signature. Therefore, removing the installation is not necessary and not recommended, as it requires host downtime and reconfiguration.
Resolution
- On the ESXi Import host, remove the IMPORT SATP claim rules for all volumes that were imported
esxcli import equalRule remove
- Uninstall the VMware host plug-in.
esxcli software vib remove -n dellemc-import-hostagent-provider -n dellemc-import-satp
- Reboot the ESXi host.
- Write a new signature on the VMFS datastore on the imported volume. See Broadcom article Resignature a VMFS Datastore
- Re-register your VMs with the datastore after the resignature operation is completed.
