What is Intelligent Tiering in AWS?     
  • S3 Intelligent-Tiering is an Amazon S3 storage class designed for users who want to optimize storage costs automatically when data access patterns change, without performance impact or operational overhead.
  • It is the first cloud object storage class that delivers automatic cost savings by moving data between two access tiers, frequent access and infrequent access, when access patterns change, and is ideal for data with unknown or changing access patterns.

Does CloudBoost support Intelligent Tiering in AWS?
  • Through working with one on our major users, CloudBoost Support identified critical issues with Disaster Recovery & Restores when this feature was enabled with CloudBoost, so it is NOT recommended.
  • CloudBoost does NOT support Intelligent Tiering in AWS.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If a user chooses to use this feature, they need to move ALL blobs out of Intelligent Tiering back to Standard before any recovery or restore is attempted.
