ECS: OBS: Code Upgrade Recommendation

Instructions

ECS and ObjectScale Engineering, Quality, and Services leadership recommend that all ECS upgrades and installations should be to either:

  1. The latest software release (currently OBS 4.1.0.1)
    OR
  2. The latest patch of the Target/Recommended Code (currently ECS 3.8.1.6)

Details:

  • ECS 3.8.1 is the current Target/Recommended Code with minimum patch ECS 3.8.1.1 as of August 2024.
    • Target/Recommended Code is established on the Service Release level (third digit). For example: ECS 3.8.1.x 
    • Dell Technologies recommends to always take the latest patch level (fourth digit) of the Target/Recommended Code.
    • The latest patch release of the ECS Recommended Code is ECS 3.8.1.6. Patches are extensions to the Service Release level, and they include the latest fixes.
  • Following the release of ECS version 3.8.1, the ECS appliance was rebranded as ObjectScale.
    • The first ObjectScale-branded software release was OBS 4.0, followed by OBS 4.1.
    • OBS 4.1.0.1 is the latest OBS release. It contains the latest fixes and enhancements to ECS and ObjectScale.

NOTE:
  • Open an upgrade Service Request to begin the upgrade planning process with a Dell engineer.
  • It is not recommended to upgrade to releases older than the Target/Recommended code:
    • If there is a solid business or technical justification to upgrade to an older release code, provide the reason to the upgrade engineer when opening the upgrade Service Request.
    • Dell Technologies does not recommend updating to something that does not have the best content Dell Technologies can offer.
