Symptoms
- The EPIC database protection job using PowerMax Storage Direct fails with
error ABVSD0018. - The following log entries appear in
varlog/brs/sdmng.log:
errorCode: "ABVSD0018" errorMessage: "An error occurred while reading the data from queue. Error code is 81."
- Additional log messages indicate:
Backup session failed for the session id: <session_id> Volume configuration may not be supported or disk may be encrypted.
Cause
PowerProtect Data Manager experiences a sudden increase in writer wait time while waiting for the reader to send data. Certain data chunks see wait intervals ranging between 800 and 2000 seconds, leading to timeout errors. Slow read performance from the PowerMax volume typically causes this behavior.
Resolution
To mitigate the issue:
- Edit the following configuration file on the PowerProtect Data Manager system:
/usr/local/brs/lib/sdmng/config/application.yml
- Locate the parameter:
READER_TIMEOUT_IN_SECONDS: 300
- Update it to:
READER_TIMEOUT_IN_SECONDS: 900
- Restart the
sdmngservice to apply the change.
# sdmng restart ...wait for service to restart & check status # sdmng status
This increases the timeout threshold, allowing the system more time to complete read operations and reducing the likelihood of ABVSD0018 errors.
