Data Domain: How to create CIFS shares to upload .rpm files to System Manager

Purpose:
This article details an alternative method of uploading .rpm files to System Manager using the CIFS protocol.

Applies to:

  • All Data Domain systems
  • All Software Versions
  • Microsoft Windows
  • Common Internet File System


Solution

  1. Log in to the UI System Manager interface
  2. Navigate to Protocols > CIFS (ensure that CIFS is enabled)
  3. Click the Shares tab
  4. If a share to the "/ddvar" directory path does not exist yet, then click Create, and enter the following details, or else ensure that the share is "Enabled":
    1. Share Name = ddvar
    2. Directory Path = /ddvar
    3. Click the  +  button , clients = *
    4. Click Okay


Then open Windows finder on the PC:

  1. Navigate to \\<ddhostname/IP>
  2. Enter credentials if prompted
  3. You should see the ddvar folder. Double-click that.
  4. Copy the .rpm file into the releases folder [not ddr-releases]
  5. Refresh the UI and the .rpm should appear
