PowerPath is not creating and/or deleting device files from /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk location on Solaris disk label change.

Symptoms

Solaris disk label change from SMI to EFI, PowerPath is not always creating the /dev/(r)dsk/emcpower#  - the whole device.
Solaris disk label change from EFI to SMI, PowerPath is not deleting the /dev/(r)dsk/emcpower#  - the whole device.

Cause

The procedure we followed to the disk label change in PowerPath installed Solaris host as it mentioend in PowerPath Admin guide.

1. use 'format' command to change the label (SMI to EFI or reverse)
2. use 'powermt config' command to update the /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk location.

But above did not help to the correct device file create and/or deleted. 

Resolution

The procedure we need to follow is: 

1. Label the device.
2. powermt remove dev=<emcpowerxx>
3. powermt config
4. powermt save
