Instructions

The purpose of this article is to describe the method to collect hardware logs from a Gen4S Avamar data node.

Hardware logs may be required for troubleshooting purposes and further analysis.

1. Log in to the Avamar data node with the root account.

2. Change to the /tmp folder:

cd /tmp

3. Generate the log output for hardware events:

sysinfo -ni
Note: The command can take several minutes to complete.

The script creates a "LogFiles" subdirectory and generates the following files:
  • OS_Eventlog.txt:
    • The /var/log/messages file from the time "sysinfo" was run.
  • sysinfo_log.txt:
    • Contains the BIOS, BMC, and SDR info, along with the BMC system event log
  • RAID_NVRAMlog.txt:
    • The output of "CmdTool2, adpalilog, aall, nolog," which returns the controller, the storage configuration, and the controller event log
  • PCI_log.txt:
    • The output of the "lspci" command that returns the PCI devices seen on the operating system.

4. Zip the contents of the folder:

zip -r sysinfo.zip LogFiles

5. Provide the logs to the Technical Support Engineer.
