Symptoms

This article describes user account requirements to successfully add PowerStoreX nodes to a PowerStore datacenter on a vCenter system.

When setting up a PowerStoreX using the Initial Configuration Wizard (ICW), you are prompted to provide the vCenter Server IP Address or Host Name, vCenter Administrator Username and Password

Depending on the permissions that are assigned to the user account, ICW may fail during clustering with the following error:

Cluster configuration has failed. To attempt clustering again, the appliance or appliances must be placed back to their original factory default mode.
Contact your service provider for assistance. To help diagnose the issue, it is highly recommended you gather support materials from the appliance as soon as possible.

Resolution

Solution

Full vCenter administrator privileges are required for ICW to complete clustering of the PowerStoreX nodes.

Users assigned the Administrator Role under Administration > Global Permissions may not have access to the vCenter Object will all child objects, or will not automatically have administrator permissions assigned to the newly created PowerStore object. This varies based on the permissions initially assigned.

When possible, it is recommended to use administrator@vsphere.local as by default this account has the Administrator role on vCenter Single Sign-On and vCenter Server.
