Symptoms

Alienware Aurora R15 AMD configured with AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs have an overclocking feature disabled by Dell due to specific limitations.

Overclocking option is grayed out in the BIOS and is unavailable in Alienware Command Center.

Cause

The High Thermal Design Power (TDP) and operating temperature by AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series when the overclocking mode is enabled.

Resolution

Overclocking is not supported within specific AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs.

Note: The Overclock option on these processors is disabled by design. Dell does not plan to enable overclocking features on these platforms due to design limitations.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X and AMD Ryzen 5 7600X are the only processors that support overclocking.

Note: Even when overclocking is enabled by whole AMD 7000 series, Dell do not recommend overclocking these CPUs with an AMD application or with third-party software. The reason is that the thermal design would be breached and could cause increased fan noise or even damage to the liquid cooling or CPU.
