PowerFlex 4.x Upgrading the Dell PowerSwitch switches
Summary: This section covers the procedures to upgrade the Dell PowerSwitch switches and Cisco Nexus switches. The procedures to upgrade the Cisco Nexus switches may vary depending on the NX-OS version running on the Cisco Nexus switches. ...
Instructions
Upgrading the Dell PowerSwitch switches
PowerFlex Manager supports multiple Dell PowerSwitch models with specific firmware and software components.
You must upgrade the switches in the following order:
- Management switches
- Access switches
- Aggregation switches
- Upgrade the Dell PowerSwitch switches
- Upgrade the OS software version
- Upgrade the BIOS version
- Upgrade the BMC version
- Upgrade the FPGA version
- Upgrade the ONIE version
Upgrade the Dell PowerSwitch switches using PowerFlex Manager
Use this procedure to upgrade the Dell PowerSwitch switches in PowerFlex Manager.
About this task
Prerequisites
Ensure you have taken a backup of the switch configurations. See Backing up the environment for more information.
Steps
- Log in to PowerFlex Manager.
- Update the switches, one at a time. Go to the Resources page, select a switch, on the right-side, click Non-Compliant with Default Catalog.
- Click Update Resources.
- Click .
NOTE:Be sure to update the switches one at a time. Do not select multiple switches and update them all simultaneously. The minimum required Open Network Install Environment (ONIE) version is 3.40.1.1-6. Before using ONIE firmware updater, if your switch has an ONIE version lower than 3.40.1.1-6, you must first upgrade your switch to this minimum requirement.NOTE:The default virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) is supported only when it has a routed network to the PowerFlex Manager interface. Most customer deployments using layer-2 cannot use the default VRF.
Upgrade Dell operating system and firmware manually
Dell OS and firmware upgrades are completed by PowerFlex Manager. The manual procedure is for reference only, for more information see: Dell SmartFabric OS10 Installation, Upgrade, and Downgrade Guide. PowerFlex Manager does not support PCIe firmware upgrade on Dell PowerSwitch switches. This upgrade is completed manually.
Upgrade the PCIe firmware on the Dell PowerSwitch S5200 series switches
Use this procedure to upgrade the PCIe firmware on the Dell PowerSwitch S5200 series switches.
About this task
Prerequisites
- OS10 version is 10.5.x.x. If not, follow the IC to upgrade to OS10 10.5.x.x.
- Ensure the firmware components are corresponding to the IC.
- The latest PCIe firmware version. Download the latest PCIe firmware version x.x from the Dell Technologies support site (For example: onie-update-full-x86_64-dellemc_s5200_c3538-r0.3.40.5.1-24.zip).
- A serial console to access the switch.
- IP address or USB connectivity from switch to access the PCIe firmware file.
Steps
- SSH to the switch management IP address and type: show system.
Example output:
