PowerStore: BaseEnclosure Node IoModule, EmbeddedModule, 4PortCard, Initiator CHAP Alerts

Summary: This article discusses I/O Module alerts - BaseEnclosure Node IoModule, EmbeddedModule, 4PortCard, and Initiator CHAP Alerts.

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

When Dell PowerStore encounters an issue, an error alert is generated to help identify the issue. This article explains the different possible causes and the relevant solutions for these error alerts. If your issue is not resolved despite the solution provided, check the technical Dell Technical Support contact options.

Note: Cannot find the information that you need? Let us know using the feedback form at the bottom of this article.

Cause

The cause is mentioned in the Resolution section under the respective alerts.

Resolution

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_COMP_STATUS_INCOMPATIBLE
Alert Text Component part number %(part_number) does not match with the expected part number %(expected_part_number) for this slot.
Error Code (0x0030a204)
Resolution Cause
This may occur after the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard is replaced, if the new FRU is not the same (or compatible) with the original.

Solution
The IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard should be replaced. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance.

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_COMP_STATUS_UNIDENTIFIABLE
Alert Text The component serial number is not readable by the software.
Error Code (0x0030a205)
Resolution Cause
This may occur if the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard resume information is not readable by the software.

Solution
The IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard should be replaced. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance.

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_COMP_STATUS_UNSUPPORTED
Alert Text Component with part number %(part_number) is not supported.
Error Code (0x0030a202)
Resolution Cause
This may occur if the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard is not supported for the current software version running on the system.

Solution
The IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard should be replaced. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance.

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_COMP_STATUS_UNEXPECTED
Alert Text An unexpected component was found.
Error Code (0x0030a206)
Resolution Cause
This may occur if the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard is found in a previously otherwise empty slot for that node.

Solution
The extraneous IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard should be removed from that node. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance.

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_COMP_STATUS_MISMATCHED
Alert Text Components inserted in each node of the appliance do not match.
Error Code (0x0030a203)
Resolution Cause
This may occur if the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard present in the particular slot on the current node does not match with the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard present in the same slot on the peer node.

The same issue when detected by the service script svc_diag list --icw_hardware has the error ICW Health Check error --I/O Module Consistency Check: Failed.

The same issue is seen on svc_diag list --icw_hardware output, on the service container, as I/O Module Consistency Check = Failed

Solution
It is necessary that the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard be identical on both nodes. Contact Dell Technical Support for corrective action.

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_STATE_DISCONNECTED
Alert Text Node's IOM %(iom_index) is disconnected from the cluster.
Error Code (0x00309204)
Resolution

Cause
This may occur if the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard is physically removed or improperly seated in the system.

Solution
A re-seat of the relevant IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard while the node is powered off is required. The re-seat operation is the "replacement" of a component with itself. The replacement procedures are found in the Installation and Service Guide.

If the issue persists, replace the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard with a new part, based on the guide referenced above. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance.

Note: The embedded module on a PowerStore 500T is not a FRU component. If replacing the 4-port card does not resolve the error, replacing the node is the next step.

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_POWER_STATUS_FAILED
Alert Text The component failed to power on.
Error Code (0x0030aa04)
Resolution Cause
This may occur if the IIoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard has a fault and has failed to power on.

Solution
Replace the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard unit. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance.

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_POWER_STATUS_OFF
Alert Text The component is powered off.
Error Code (0x0030aa03)
Resolution Cause
This may occur if the IIoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard are powered off.

For the case of IoModule, it can also occur if the IoModule was re-seated while the system was still live, or if it was inserted into the live system and was awaiting a node reboot to get powered on.

The same issue is seen on svc_diag list --icw_hardware; output, on the service container under
Node A|B FRU Status as:
Off | <Embedded Module|Embedded Module|Embedded Module>|Embedded Module1> |  0x8b81

and/or as

IO Module Consistency Check = Failed

Solution
Reboot the node to see if the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard powers on. See Powering Down and Reboot Procedures Guide for instructions on performing the reboot. If the power on is not successful, then replace it. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance.

Alert ID XMS_IOM_FRU_STATE_FAILED
Alert Text Node's IOM has failed.
Error Code (0x00309203)
Resolution

Cause
This may occur if the IoModule, EmbeddedModule, or 4PortCard has failed and has been marked as faulted by the system.

The same issue is seen on svc_diag list --icw_hardware output on the service container under:

Node A|B Fault Status Register
FLT | Embedded Module
FLT | I/O Module 0
FLT | I/O Module 1
FLT | 4-Port Card

which may even be accompanied by

FLT | Node

Solution
If it is the IoModule that has failed, then replace the IoModule. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance. If multiple FRUs are indicted, then see article PowerStore Alerts: Embedded Module State Failed

If it is the 4PortCard that has failed, then replace the 4PortCard. Contact Dell Technical Support for further assistance. If multiple FRUs are indicted, then see article PowerStore Alerts: Embedded Module State Failed

If it is the EmbeddedModule that has failed or multiple FRUs are indicted, then see article PowerStore Alerts: Embedded Module State Failed

Note: The embedded module on a PowerStore 500T is not a FRU component. If replacing the 4-port card does not resolve the error, replacing the node is the next step.

Alert ID XMS_INITIATOR_CHAP_CLUSTER_AUTHENTICATION_TRUE
Alert Text Mutual CHAP is enabled, but not configured for some initiators.
Error Code (0x00301C01)
Resolution Cause
The initiator is not available until credentials are assigned.

Solution
Configure authentication credentials for the initiators. Otherwise, a failure occurs when an initiator is disconnected and then re-connected.

Alert ID XMS_INITIATOR_CHAP_AUTHENTICATION_TRUE
Alert Text CHAP is enabled, but not configured for some initiators.
Error Code (0x00301D02)
Resolution Cause
The initiator is not available until credentials are assigned.

Solution
Configure authentication credentials for the initiators. Otherwise, a failure occurs when an initiator is disconnected and then re-connected.
