PowerEdge: How to Install VMware Tools in a Solaris VM via the vSphere Client

Instructions

  1. Ensure that the VM is powered on.
  2. Right-click the VM on the left
    • Click Guest
    • Click Install/Upgrade VMware Tools
  3. Click the Okay button to confirm that your VM is powered on
  4. The VMware Tools ISO is now attached to your VM as an optical drive.
  5. Wait a moment for the ISO to auto-mount as CD-ROM in the operating system.
  6. # cd /tmp/vmtools
    # gunzip vmware-solaris-tools.tar.gz
    # tar xvf  vmware-solaris-tools.tar
    # cd vmware-tools-distrib
    # ./vmware-install.pl
  7. Answer the questions to complete the installation. Generally you can answer them with the default answers by pressing the [Enter] key.
  8. Copy VM Tools to a temporary directory and extract the file:< ># mkdir /tmp/vmtools# ls /cdrom/vmwaretools# cp /cdrom/vmwaretools/vmware-solaris-tools.tar.gz /tmp/vmtoolsStart the installation:
