Symptoms

The system health check may detect an MTC NVRAM issue that raises the following message: NVRAM <id> has inconsistent counters (KB#000212587).

It may occur when running a System Check using PowerStore Manager (UI) with the Run System Check or Run Upgrade Extensions option:

Or
  • Running the System Health Service Script (svc_health_check) using an SSH connection:
    $ svc_health_check run -rhc mtc_drive_counter_check
    Name                               Location  Status     Description
    NVRAM Drive Powercycle Counter     node_a    FAILED     NVRAM 0_0_24 has inconsistent counters. (KB#000212587)

When this issue is detected during upgrade from 2.x to 3.x, the NVRAM drive may be taken offline, its data may be inaccessible, and the NDU may fail.

Cause

This is due a rare timing issue when an unexpected power-cycle occurs, that may cause an internal counter inconsistency.
