Unity OE supported upgrade paths
Some Unity OE upgrades cannot be done directly and require intermediate upgrade steps. This table describes the valid upgrade paths.
Unity systems running versions older than 5.1 must upgrade to 5.4.1 before upgrading to version 5.5.
This is due to changes in support for TLS, KMIP, and encryption keys between the pre 5.1 versions and 5.5. See the New Features section of the Unity OE 5.4.1 release notes for more details.

Note: If you attempt to perform an unsupported upgrade when a double-hop upgrade is required, an error message is shows as the encryption keys are not available to decrypt the upgrade package:

Additional Information
For guidance on how to identify the minimum Unity OE that is eligible for Root Cause Analysis (RCA), see:
Dell Unity - Minimum Unity OE code release eligible for Root Cause Analysis (User Correctable)
Notes
Note 1 - Unity systems shipped with OE version 4.1.0.8940590 (Factory-only version) come with this note: Due to an issue found in Unity OE (Operating Environment) 4.1.0.8940590 (currently loaded on this Unity system) we recommend upgrading to the latest Unity OE version upon install of your new system.
Note 2 - Unity XT (x80/F models) was released in the same day as Unity OE 5.0.0.0.5.116. Unity OE 5.0 and later releases are compatible with the existing Unity models x00/F and x50/F, as well as the new x80/F models (Unity XT). Note however, that the new x80/F models require a minimum of Unity OE 5.0.
Note 3 - There is a requirement to disable TLS 1.0/1.1 and enable TLS 1.2 before performing an upgrade to Unity OE 5.5. See Dell Unity: Alert 14:b20080 TLSv1.0 and TLSv1.1 are not secure. It is recommended that you use TLSv1.2 and Dell Unity: How to Disable TLS 1.0 and 1.1 on Unity Array for details.

List of available Unity OE Hotfixes
Notes:
- If a more recent code is available that already contains the required fixes, upgrade to that code instead of installing a hotfix on older code.
- Minor or specific hotfixes (one-off HFs, or HFs for specific customers) are not listed here.
- Only hotfixes for our recommended code and later are shown here. All other older hotfixes are not shown in this matrix.
- Do not install hotfixes without confirming with an SME or Engineering.
- ATTENTION: All hotfixes below are full upgrade images. Any previous Unity version can be upgraded to these hotfixes directly (it is not required to install the base code first and then the hotfix).
- Since these hotfixes cannot be uninstalled or downgraded to earlier versions, the only option is to upgrade to a later version (but it is an older version). Roll-Back hotfixes are available for customers that request a Roll-Back strategy. Engineering must be engaged for this.
Table Format:
| Hotfixes for Unity OE X.X.X | |
| Hotfix Number | Fixes |
| Hotfixes for Unity OE 5.4.0 | |
| 5.4.0.0.6.117 | UNITYD-66204 - NAS Server LDAPS connection fails if LDAP server is configured by FQDN and port 389 is blocked. UNITYD-70986 - Snapset creation may fail when manifest resource in memory is used up. UNITYD-71315 - Mitigation for FSR orphan block detection mechanism being too aggressive, avoid bringing FS offline except when required. UNITYD-72837 - File system may go offline due to space maker failing to stop within specified timeout. UNITYD-73809 - Blocked threads may occur due to a deadlock between a rename and open threads when using NFSv4.1. UNITYD-74019 - Blocked threads may occur due to a deadlock between NFSv4 create session, open, and rename threads. UNITYD-74094 - Replication session pause command may hang when bandwidth throttle is configured. UNITYD-74614 - File system may go offline due to unexpected state VNON in lookupComp. UNITYD-74882 - SP may encounter a rolling panic if inode disk di_blocks info has corruption. UNITYD-75643 - An incorrect handling of a reference pointer for LDAP related connections results in an LDAP object being freed more than once causing SP panic. |
