SC Storage Customer Notification: SC4020 and SC20xx Platforms Reporting Incorrect Cache Battery Expiration Dates
Summary: Dell Storage SC4020 and SC20xx systems running SCOS 6.6 and lower may have cache disabled due to an incorrectly calculated battery expiration date.
Symptoms
Title: SC Storage Customer Notification: SC4020 and SC20xx Platforms Reporting Incorrect Cache Battery Expiration Dates
Description: While on Storage Center OS versions 6.6.x and lower, cache batteries may display an incorrect expiration date prior to actual battery expiration. Storage Center and Dell Storage Manager will incorrectly display a recommendation to have the cache battery replaced. This issue can lead to write cache being disabled within the storage system, which may impact performance.
Newer Storage Center versions correctly calculate cache battery expiration based upon battery life expectancy.
Procedure: Dell EMC Storage Support recommends any customers owning SC4020/SC20xx platforms, which are on Storage Center versions 6.6.x or lower, upgrade to SCOS 7.3.x or later for permanent remediation. Dell EMC recommends Storage Center version 7.3.x or later. Cache battery hardware replacements due to false positive expiration dates will not be performed for systems running SCOS versions below 6.7.x.
Storage Center versions 6.6.x and lower are considered below minimum software versions. The Dell Storage targeted software versions and the Dell Storage Software Policy can be found at:
