Symptoms
- Event Code:
STORAGE-00009 - Alert Message:
Two or more disks are failed and the RAID protection is in critical state for over a considerable period of time. If an additional disk fails, there might be permanent loss of data. The system will shut down. - RAID6 disk group degraded by two failed disks
- No spare disks available for reconstruction
- RAID reconstruction stalled or not progressing
- System initiates shutdown to protect data integrity
Cause
The Data Domain Operating System (DDOS) continuously monitors disk health and RAID status. If two or more disks fail and:
- No spare disks are available for reconstruction, or
- RAID reconstruction fails to progress over time,
Then DDOS triggers a system shutdown to prevent further degradation and potential data loss.
Resolution
To prevent this condition:
- Replace failed disks promptly. Replaced disks become available spares for future reconstruction.
- Do not allow failed disks to accumulate in the system.
If multiple disk failures occur simultaneously:
- Contact your Data Domain Service/Support Provider immediately for assistance.
