Symptoms
NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) backup fails when the vProxy VM is encrypted. The error message returned is:
Backup has FAILED. Failed to backup virtual disk "Hard disk 3". "Failed to initialize Block Reader. Failed to open source VMDK" VMDK 'XXX-XXX] vm_name.vmdk': VDDK Error: 13: You do not have access rights to this file.
Cause
Encrypted vProxy is protecting non-encrypted VMs.
Resolution
The NetWorker VMware Integration Guide suggests you should not use automatic vProxy selection when using encrypted VMs and the vProxy should be assigned manually to the encrypted policy.
However, it is important to separate encrypted VMs onto only an encrypted vProxy and non-encrypted to a non-encrypted vProxy.
See the NetWorker VMware Integration Guide for additional requirements and limitations when backing up encrypted VMs.
