Symptoms
- NAS incremental backup fails in PowerProtect Data Manager.
- Error seen:
MON0049: The activity was not updated for an extended period of time and has been canceled.
- Failure consistently occurs during the Snapshot & Crawl phase.
- The job fails at approximately the same Slice-Processed Byte count each time.
Cause
Error MON0049 indicates a timeout due to inactivity in the backup process. The consistent failure point suggests a possible issue with:
- The previous backup copy
- The NAS data itself
- For PowerScale NAS appliances, a snapshot discrepancy may occur if
ChangeFileListis enabled for the asset
Resolution
Perform a manual Full backup of the affected asset. This typically resolves the issue and allows subsequent incremental backups to complete successfully.
