PowerFlex 5.X: Device Error All IO to the Device will be stopped

Symptoms

Alert message:

All IO to the Device will be stopped, and data will be relocated to other Devices. Device Name: <Device Name>, Device ID: <Device ID>, Device path: <Device Path>, Device Slot: <Device Slot>, Node: <Node Name>, ID: <Node ID>

Impact

The system will be in a degraded state.  PowerFlex will attempt to rebuild/replicate the data on the failed device.

Cause

PowerFlex will exclude a Storage Node device that has run into an error.  The error may be the result of multiple scenarios, such as a hard failure of the device, a device that is responding too slowly, or an issue with the RAID controller.

Resolution

Attempt to clear the device error via SCLI:

scli --clear_device_error --storage_node_name <Storage Node Name> --device_id <Device ID>

 

If the device error cannot be cleared via SCLI, it may be necessary to replace the device.  Verify the Device Group is in a Protected state before attempting to remove and replace the faulty device:

scli --query_device_group --device_group_name <Device Group Name> --protection_domain_name <PD Name> | grep -i state
Capacity Health State: Protected
