Symptoms

The Thin-deployer pod contains a directory for the update job. In this directory, it contains an exception.log file that contains details about the failure:

#".AddCaCommand", "message"=>"Command failed: Security Bootstrap Add CA method failed on node for ACTIVEMQ due to Error"}, {"name"=>".AddCaCommand", "message"=>"Command failed: Security Bootstrap Add CA method failed on node for ACTIVEMQ due to Error"}, {"name"=>".AddCaCommand", "message"=>"Command failed: Security Bootstrap Add CA method failed on node for ACTIVEMQ due to Error"}]>

Impact

Unable to update the PowerFlex Gateway Resource.

Cause

In this scenario, an upgrade is underway for the backend PowerFlex system, transitioning from version 3.6.x to version 4.x. The new 4.x version introduces a component known as ActiveMQ. The PowerFlex Gateway is in the process of deploying the ActiveMQ component across all Manager MDMs within the MDM cluster. However, ActiveMQ has a prerequisite, which is the installation of OpenJDK-11-jre-headless. The challenge here is that this PowerFlex system was initially imported as a Software-Only object, and because of this, PowerFlex Manager Platform (PFMP) will not automatically handle the installation of the required prerequisites for the PowerFlex 4.x components. PFxM will only take care of prerequisite installations for systems configured as Rack or Appliance setups.

Resolution

Workaround

In the case of a Software-Only setup, it is essential to perform manual installations of the prerequisite, OpenJDK-11-jre-headless, on all Manager MDMs. This manual installation is necessary to enable the PowerFlex Gateway to proceed with the installation of the PowerFlex ActiveMQ component.

Consult the official Dell PowerFlex documentation to ensure that you have the complete list of prerequisites and step-by-step instructions for correctly updating the PowerFlex Gateway resource.
