PowerScale: Initial NDMP Troubleshooting
Summary: This article provides guidance for initiating the investigation of NDMP-related issues.
Instructions
To begin troubleshooting Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP), verify the following information for the impacted cluster and impacted NDMP jobs.
-
PowerScale name and version
-
What backup software and version are you using, Data Management Application (DMA)? Verify NDMP global settings.
isi ndmp settings global view
-
Has this worked before?
-
Date & time the problem started, and/or timestamps of recent failures. (This is important for establishing a timeline and focusing searches through the logs.)
-
How often does the issue occur? Is the frequency of the problem intermittent or predictable?
-
What errors are you seeing? (copy and paste)
Live cluster isi_for_array -QX 'grep -hi ndmp /var/log/messages' |sort |tail -50 Logs cat */varlog.tar/log/messages |grep ndmp |sort |tail -50
Share any error info from the DMA side too, such as a report from the failed backup job.
-
Were there any recent changes made? If yes, what changes were made?
-
What is your location and time zone?
-
What is the cluster's location and time zone?
-
Provide a full log set from the PowerScale cluster ***WHILE THE BACKUPS ARE RUNNING*** with the isi_gather_info command.
For Performance issues, also collect the following:
-
What performance numbers are you seeing?
Check throughput on running NDMP jobs.isi ndmp sessions list -v
-
What performance numbers are you expecting to see?
